A New Era Dawns As Gubo Johnson Diyo Matalo Ascends the Throne of Yungur Chiefdom

Today February 6, 2025, is a remarkable day for the entire people of Yungur Land, as His Royal Majesty, Gubo Johnson Diyo Matalo, has ascended the throne of his ancestors, which took place at exactly 10:00 A.M at Dumne Primary school, Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The Yungur Chiefdom was revived and brought back to life on December 23rd, 2024. when Governor Fintiri created 5 Chiefdoms and 2 Emirates and appointed 5 Chiefs and 2 Emirs in the state on January 3rd, 2025.
However, today been the 6th of February, 2025 has marked the coronation day, as the Gubo Yungur receives his staff of office from His Excellency Right Honorable Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the Governor of Adamawa State. 

At the moment, it is a celebration time and joyous moment for the people of Yungur land.

The chief celebrant, His Royal Majesty, Gubo Johnson Diyo Matalo, was born on January 2, 1951, in Prambe, Adamawa State. He comes from the Mwapa ruling house in the Laro clan of the Yungur Chiefdom. His father, Matalo Tiira, was a well-known farmer and livestock keeper, while his mother, Atirkonhere (Amina) Zabu, was a devoted homemaker. Gubo Johnson Matalo is the third of five children.

He is a direct descendant of the legendary Gubo Angbalan Agubakta, who ruled twice, from 1914 to 1929 and again from 1947 to 1961.

Gubo Johnson Matalo began his education at S.U.M Primary School in Shelleng, from 1961 to 1964. He then attended Demonstration School in Numan from 1965 to 1967. Later, he studied at the School of Nursing in Kano from 1969 to 1973.

He started his career as a bedside nurse at Mubi General Hospital in 1974. He quickly moved up, becoming a Clinical Instructor at the School of Nursing in Bauchi from 1975 to 1976.

In 1981, he entered the private sector, joining Major and Co., Nigeria Ltd as a Medical Representative. From 1981 to 1997, he worked with Ethicon Ltd, a leading manufacturer of medical and surgical equipment, rising from National Representative (Health Care Products) to Senior Medical Representative and Medical Sales Executive. He later served as National Sales Manager at Philip Pharmaceuticals from 1998 to 2005.

In 2005, he founded JODMAT Nigeria Ltd, a company specializing in importing sutures and medical supplies. His clients include major teaching hospitals. like A.B.U. Teaching Hospital, University of Jos Teaching Hospital, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital.

Throughout his career, he attended numerous training programs and seminars both within and outside Nigeria.

His Royal Majesty is married to Mrs. Rebeccah Johnson Matalo, a graduate of A.B.U. Zaria and a retired Director in the Adamawa State Ministry of Information. Together, they have five children: Donan, Kurainah, Adon, Altine, and Diyo, as well as four grandchildren: Joshua, Zara, Jamin. and Guboasangan.

His life's mission has always been crystal: to serve his people, make life easier for others, and build peace and empathy in his community.

However, receiving the Staff of Office from His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON, GSSRS, has marked the beginning of a new era in his lifelong dedication to leadership and service.
So also, to the Yungur Land, and the entire people of Adamawa State, as he stood in his remark, during the moment of the historic step, His Royal Majesty, Gubo Johnson Matalo appreciates His Excellency for the bold and historic steps which has given the Yungur Land a stronger voice and a clearer identity.

In his voice:

"Today as I officially receive the staff of office, I solemnly pledge to lead this chiefdom with justice, humility and the fear of God". 

"This responsibility is not going to be taken lightly by myself and the council members yet to be consecuted, and I promise to uphold the laws, policies and guidelines on the establishment of Chiefdom, and traditional institution of Adamawa State. Our chiefdom is bless with a rich tapestry, cultures and traditions, made up of diverse tribes and communities. My Vision: is to Unite all on the banner of Peace, Progress, Prosperity, Unity, and Together we will work to ensure peaceful coexistence, Mutual Respect, among all tribes within our domain. Unity is our strength and through it, we shall achieve great development for our people. My realm will be forecast including Policies that will promote Human Dignity, Equality and Respect for all creation".

"I call on the Seven (7) district village heads, sons and daughters of this chiefdom, and all friends and well wishers to join hands with us in building this long awaited Yungur's Chiefdom, where unity, progress and justice thrive. Let us pursue a common purpose, praying and working together for the good of all humanity. Security remains a core priority for us, as I assume the State Government and the good people of Yungur's Chiefdom, that we will collaborate closely with the relevant security agencies to tackle security challenges in our domain. Without peace, there can be no progress and development, together we will ensure that our Chiefdom is a haven of safety, security and tranquility".

"As we celebrate this momentous occasion, I pray for grace and wisdom to lead with the highest sense of humility and fairness, also I pray for every person here asking God to grant you safe travels back to your destination. Finally, let us continue to seek God's guidance for it's only through Him that we can achieve our goals, with our collective efforts, Yungur Chiefdom will flourish, and our people will prosper".

"Thank you all for your love, support and prayers, may God bless Yungur Chiefdom, Adamawa State and Federal Republic of Nigeria, Thank you and God bless you all".
